What's The Best Gift You've Ever Received?

What do your favorite holidays have in common? For me, it's the people and presents! Gift-giving is such an integral part of showing another person how much you genuinely care, and while gifts may to be associated with materialism, they are so much more than that! They’re a way of saying, “I thought of you” – no matter the time or the location. While I will openly admit I love receiving gifts, I love giving them even more. There’s something so heartwarming about the reaction of someone open a gift that is personalized just for them. I live for these reactions… especially when it’s a surprise!

This led me to take some time to ask my friends, "what is the best you've ever received?" Here are their thoughts (along with mine!):

Q: What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten?
Tori: Even though I’ve gotten a lot of really expensive gifts and things I’ve asked for, if I’m considering the factors of surprise and thoughtfulness, I might have to say tickets to see How to Succeed on Broadway when Nick Jonas was in it from my friend for my Sweet 16.

Courtney: My mom got me tickets on my 16th birthday for Taylor Swift when she was super popular. She surprised me that morning with tickets for that night, and my family and friends all came!

Taylor: A flight! My friend and I had booked a trip to Greece (my first trip out of the country!), and she knew I was tight on money at the time. Without even asking, she booked our transfer flight from Athens to Kefalonia with her own money as my ‘early birthday present’.

Q: Why was this the best gift?
Tori: The most meaningful part of this was that as a 15/16-year-old, she obviously didn’t have the money to buy 2 Broadway tickets, but she still really wanted to get me this gift because of my love for Nick Jonas. She put all this effort to work it out with my mom so that she could split the cost and be able to give the gift to me.

Courtney: I think I thought it was so fun because I ADORED Taylor Swift at that time in my life - and it was my first real concert!

Taylor: We were both at a point of our lives where money was not exactly abundant, so this was a really sweet gesture that not only surprised me, but it took some of the stress out of worrying about funding the trip.  

What made this gift different than others?
Tori:  It would’ve been so easy to be like, ‘This is a nice gift, but there’s no way I can make this happen… oh well’, but she still did!

Courtney: It was a last-minute surprise, which added to the fun. My mom made sure to excuse me from school, and they gave me a shout-out on the big screen at the concert for my birthday!

Taylor: While the thought behind it was adorable, the vacation itself ranked one of the best trips I’ve ever had – and it was all thanks to her. It was a trip I could never forget!
